Top Notch Top Knot

The top knot’s popularity reached fever pitch this year as a feminine and fashionable alternative to the standard ponytail, and now it’s the go-to look for celebrities, prom-goers and fashionistas alike. This look is from the Valentino Fashion show and was created by Orlando Pita.  To create the look, he started by prepping the hair with a texture spray, then blow-drying until the product was dry. Next, he teased the entire head, section by section, with a fine-tooth comb. He pulled the hair back into a high ponytail, securing with an elastic band, and then teased the ponytail to add volume and texture. He then wound large sections of the ponytail around the elastic to form the bun shape and used bobby pins to secure the hair in place. He finished the look with an elastic headband in a pop color for a fun accent.

Fall Hair Trends 2011

So being in the hair biz, I have to be on top of the new hair trends. Here are a few that are going to be hot this fall !

• Red and Auburn... I know what your thinking, so last fall, true.. But the trend is sticking and looks amazing.  If you are looking for an edgy change for fall this is the way to go.

• The Choppy Bob.. Now this to me is inspired by the California surfer girl. This looks amazing on Blond hair that has wave to it.  Its very easy and fun!

• Ombre.. I am still obsessed with this trend. With this you can go for a drastic change or something subtle, this trend can work on anybody.

Fall Hair

Product Review: bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolor

MIRACLE PRODUCT: bareMinerals High Shine Eyecolor ($16)    


THEY SAY: The long-lasting vibrant pigments offer high-intensity sheen and go on velvety-smooth. Plus, the cushion-tip wand allows easy, on-the-go application

Pros: The Gold Medal color was definitely intense. I was able to build up to a more dramatic hue. It glided on really well. I also like that it comes in a variety of shades.
Cons:  It is super pigmented,  but the shimmer fell all over my face. It was not easy to get it off my foundation. The dramatic eye color is better suited for nighttime.

Bottom Line: This highly pigmented shimmer is a bit much for the daytime, not to mention the messy application just might make you late to work in the morning. Stick to rocking the intense sheen at night, and make sure to apply pigment before you do your foundation for easier clean up :)

However this look does favor blondes, I know lucky us, but brunettes can also get the look by bleaching the ends first.  Professional gals? don't worry, twist your hair in a bun and your all set to hit the work place with no colors showing.
